This manual shows teachers how to present powerful, engaging, and effective lessons to students who are just beginning to learn about fractions. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the Fraction Book 1 Student Workbook. It provides essential background information about the teaching principles upon which the lessons in are based as well as detailed instructions to help both experienced and new teachers alike teach the lessons effectively. The lessons are designed for one-on-one or small group teaching.
This book covers the following skills: naming fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, writing improper fractions as mixed numbers, adding and subtracting mixed numbers with the same denominator, making equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, multiplying a fraction and a whole number. It contains material usually found in a 4th grade curriculum.
